The Lazdijai Education Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) was established under the Education, Culture, and Sports Department of the Lazdijai District Municipality Administration. On September 13, 2001, by decision of the Lazdijai District Municipality Council, it became a municipal budgetary educational institution providing teacher qualification and non-formal adult education services. In 2006, the Center was reorganized into a public institution.
On March 29, 2013 Lazdijai District Municipal Council Decision No. 5TS-684 approved new statutes for the Center, according to which the Center became an educational support institution providing not only non-formal adult education services, but also pedagogical and psychological support services for students, teachers, and schools.
The Lazdijai Education Center is an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport (accreditation certificate AP No. IVP-40).
The main activities of the center are: the development of qualification improvement programs and projects, the improvement of adult qualifications, the coordination of teachers' methodological activities, and the provision of special pedagogical and psychological assistance to teachers, parents, and students.
In 2013, the Lazdijai Third Age University was established at the Center. It is a voluntary public organization that brings together older people, does not have legal entity status, and operates in the fields of education, social affairs, culture, and other areas.
The Education Center runs various teaching and learning programs for a wide audience: heads of institutions, teachers, civil servants, cultural and sports workers, entrepreneurs, and all adult learners in the district (students of the Third Age University). More than 4,500 people attend the events organised by our Centre each year.
The Centre offers around 100 different professional development programmes, which are organised in accordance with the priorities approved by the Minister of Education, Science and Sport and the needs of our clients. Our listeners can attend training courses in management, pedagogy, special pedagogy and psychology, document management, digital literacy, foreign languages, and other relevant topics.
The center also provides the services of educational support specialists (special education teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, social pedagogues). Specialists assess students' learning difficulties from a pedagogical, psychological, and social pedagogical perspective, as well as the child's readiness for school. They provide psychological, social pedagogical, and educational information assistance to children, as well as information, expert, and consulting assistance to parents (guardians, caregivers) and schools and their teaching staff.
The Lazdijai Education Center employs career specialists who provide career education, vocational information, and counseling services in schools in the Lazdijai district municipality. Career specialists help students make informed choices about education and employment opportunities during group and individual consultations, and develop students' career competencies – self-awareness, awareness of career opportunities, career planning, and choice of field of study.
The Education Center actively participates in various fund projects. Through project activities, we strive for innovations that improve the professional and social competencies of both the Center's employees and the teachers and other residents of the Lazdijai District Municipality.
Training, consultations, etc. The Center's activities take place in attractive educational premises equipped with modern teaching equipment. Visitors can also use the library, whose collections are constantly updated with the latest publications.
The center maintains close partnerships and cooperation with Lithuanian regional teacher education centers, educational psychology services, universities, other scientific institutions, and organizations. These partnerships provide opportunities to participate in joint adult education programs and projects, share work experience, and improve.
